Sitting in my Grandmother's bedroom, watching her peddle away on her Singer sewing machine, I'd play with all the buttons she had stored in various containers. These are some of the amazing memories I love most when I think about her. Her generation was so thrifty. She kept so many containers to reuse them in various ways. One of those may be familiar to you...the one that you never knew if there were yummy butter cookies or sewing notions inside! Most of the time I found scissors, thread and buttons, but sometimes, there would be a new beautiful shiny tin filled with butter cookies!
The Churn Butter Cookie Quilt pattern takes the traditional churn dash block and adds a modern twist by incorporating various center block designs. There are 3 main center blocks in the pattern: the 4-patch block, the quarter square triangle (aka hourglass block) and the diamond-in-a-square center block. The pattern is easily customizable, as it is block based. Each block is 15.5" unfinished.
